Notice Flyer

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Earlimart School District has ordered all schools to close in order to curb the potential transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Schools will be closed beginning March 17 through April 13, 2020 and children should stay home. Schools will resume operations with students on April 14, 2020.

We understand this action may pose added hardship for some of our families. Please know that our decision to close schools was made out of an abundance of caution, and in consultation with local public health officials to help your child and our staff remain safe during the coronavirus outbreak, and for you and your family to follow the recommendations to practice “social distancing” for continued safety during school closures. Social distancing includes avoiding group gatherings of more than ten people and public events, and making daily choices to stay home as much as possible.

While your student(s) remains home, we encourage you to continue practicing prevention, which includes:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
• Get vaccinated for the flu if you have not already

If you feel your child may have or has been exposed to the novel coronavirus, please contact your doctor immediately. Virus symptoms can range from mild to severe and could include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Symptoms may appear in a few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure.

Earlimart School District students will continue to learn during school closures. We have prepared independent study lessons for all students, and on Monday, March 16, students will receive their independent study lessons to take home and complete during the school closures. We appreciate your assistance encouraging your child to spend time daily learning while they are at home. Please bring the independent study lessons back to school upon your child’s return.

Earlimart School District will continue to offer meals to our students during the closure. We are in the process of working on a schedule and a delivery method in order to follow the “social distancing” recommendation so that we do not have a large congregation of children and adults. We will send a separate message to you about the beginning of the meal service.

We will remain in close contact with the Tulare County Office of Education and local public health officials throughout the duration of this closure and will provide updates to families as appropriate.

We encourage you to stay informed of the situation by regularly checking updates from Tulare County Public Health Services and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

We understand this is a time of uncertainty and concern. We will work through this together to keep our students, families, and staff safe.

If you have health-related questions, please contact your primary health provider. If you have questions about our school, please contact your school office or the district office at 661-849-3386. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Sincerely,

Philip Nystrom, Superintendent
